Choosing Joy

Abraham Lincoln said, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Do you think that is true? Unhappiness has crept into my life many times.  It felt natural.  If my daughter didn’t throw a tantrum at the grocery store, I would be happy.  If I hadn’t burnt the dinner, I would be happy.  If the kids pitched in a little more, I would be happy.  If I could read my favorite blogs without interruption, I would be happy! The problem with this thinking is that it bases happiness on circumstances.  And we can’t always...

What God says about Himself

word cloud made @ wordle.net Yesterday we talked a little about getting to know God and how knowing Him is the foundation for a peaceful home.  I mentioned liking scriptures in which  God describes Himself because in them we find firm truths to take hold of.  Below is a list of verses in which God tells us about Himself (my husband put it together for me). Know God. It’s as simple (and as complicated) as that. All the other tips and tricks I plan to share may help a little, but without God, it won’t matter. He made you.  He loves you. And that is a comfort.  As much as we learn and experience in this life, we still can’t see what God sees.  He is the One who knows all and made all.  From beginning to end, He is.  And He wants the best for us. How can we know God? Read His word. The Bible is God’s word.  He has revealed Himself to us...

SugarBean teaches Bible Class

On Fridays I go to Ladies’ Class. My children come with me. The class is in the church building and we set the table up close to the nursery. Another mother comes with her children and our kids play together in the nursery while we have class (Don’t worry, the nursery door has a big window! We can see them) The Ladies are so good about having the kids there, even when things get rowdy on occasion! My daughter decided she wanted to make this play time into Bible class time. She is the oldest (8 years) and wanted to...
