This gift would be perfect for Mother’s Day or any other gift-giving occasion (as long as the recipient likes cookies!).
It’s easy to make an fairly inexpensive.
First, bake some oatmeal cookies. (I made the ones from Smitten Kitchen. Delicious!) Bag them up.
Next, make the oatmeal cookie bath recipe below and place into a glass jar. Be sure to include instructions for using the bath powder!
Oatmeal Cookie Bath
This recipe is adapted from Eco Beauty by Lauren Cox and Janice Cox, page 62. (Eco Beauty is packed with fun, simple recipes for scrubs, bath bombs, and masks. I love it.) The idea for pairing this cookie bath with actual cookies also came from the book.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Method
Blend all ingredients in a food processor or blender until they become powdery. You are looking for the mixture to become smooth, with no big pieces left (as in, no whole oats floating around).
Pour into a jar with a tight fitting lid.
To use: pour all the mixture into a warm bath while the water is running. Soak and relax.
Before you think there is nothing more to this bath than smelling like a cookie, I’d like to mention that oats are great for softening the skin!

I think I found this post through a guest post on Keeper of the Home.
Would you be able to clarify something before I make this? Is that liquid vanilla extract that’s called for in the recipe?
If so, does that affect the ‘shelf life’ of the gift? Is this something I could make a month in advance and it would still be good to give? If you are speaking just from experience, that’s fine, I would love to know what you’ve learned.
Thanks.
Sarah,
I’m so sorry I didn’t reply to this sooner! Yes, it’s liquid vanilla extract and it can be made a month in advance. It lasts a long time.
Love this! I want to make some for myself! I think I might make some of this up for my MOPS table ladies!
That is awesome. I think I need to make it for myself!
You should!
I love this and have all ingredients on hand! Great gift idea!
Isn’t it fun when you can make a gift with ingredients you already have on hand?! That always make me happy anyway
Thanks for stopping by.
I can’t wait to mix up a batch of this….
WOW! I’d really like to make this for dd teachers this year. Question~can I use quick cook oats instead of rolled oats?
I think it would be fine to use quick cook oats since it all gets ground into a powder anyway.
Your dd’s teachers will love it
I just made a couple of these for our school teachers…the cookies are FABULOUS! I hope to make more of the bath this weekend to try out for myself.
Thanks!
I don’t have a food processor but I have all the ingredients. What should I do?!?
Do you have a blender or coffee grinder? You could try those. You would need to do the ingredients a little at a time in the coffee grinder.
You could also try putting them in a ziplock bag and smashing them up with a rolling pin. I’m not sure if that would work. But it’s worth a try
One last option is to put all the ingredients in a a small cloth bag or some thin fabric and tie it at the top (like these bath bags). Then it could float in the water.
Would the oatmeal bath be safe to use for pregnant women?
I can’t see any reason why this would be unsafe for pregnant women.
Where this is oatmeal, even though it’s been through the processor, is it harmfull to our drains, for example, can it plug a drain?
The oatmeal shouldn’t bother the drains. If you are worried, flush the drain with running water after the bath drains.
I love how you paired this with actual oatmeal cookies. This is such a thoughtful little gift.
I couldn’t bear to use the whole jar in one bath so I used a third of it, and STILL loved it! And I used it in a big jacuzzi tub too. Matter of fact, is still left enough residue that I wouldn’t have wanted to use the whole jar in one bath, lol.
So….if you want it to last longer, just use “some” of it in a bath and it’s still delightful and successful!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. Glad to know it is still good when using less.
