It's awful when baby gets a diaper rash! As momma's we want to do whatever we can to get rid of it ASAP. This diaper rash cream recipe will help!
If you are naturally-minded, the ingredients in many conventional products may cause you to raise an eyebrow.
Thankfully it's not difficult to create your own diaper rash cream that is not only natural but effective.
Ingredients for Homemade Diaper Cream
Zinc oxide is used to create a protective barrier. It helps keep the skin from drying out and also provides some antiseptic action.
Coconut oil is antibacterial and anti-fungal but also provides a nourishing and healing moisture to irritated skin.
Helps keep the skin dry and fight infection.
Use to bring thickness to the cream and holds the formula together.
Calendula is used to infuse the coconut oil because it has so many skin-healing properties. In fact, many have had success using my calendula salve recipe as a diaper rash cream as well.
How to Make Diaper Rash Cream
Infuse calendula into coconut oil by placing calendula and coconut oil in an oven safe dish (I use a loaf pan). Heat oven to 300 degrees, place calendula and coconut oil in the oven and turn the oven off. Let infuse for 3 hours.
You may also infuse on the stove top in a double boiler. Simmer for at least 30 minutes.
Once infused, strain out the calendula petals.
Warm calendula-infused coconut oil and beeswax in the top of a double boiler.
Once melted, remove from heat and add the zinc and bentonite clay. (Note: even though zinc oxide is natural and non-toxic, it's recommended that you wear a mask when mixing the dry powder because the particles can be inhaled and cause irritation to the lungs.)
Mix until well-combined and clumps are removed.
Place in a clean jar and label.
Use as you would regular diaper rash cream.
