Homemade Soft Scrub and Non-Toxic Bathroom Cleaning Tips

I’m over at Live Renewed today sharing a few ways to clean the bathroom with your own homemade, non-toxic cleaners.

They are easy to make. I promise!

My favorite: Homemade soft scrub for the bathtub (pictured above).

I enjoy making these things myself. One reason is because I then know EXACTLY what is in the products I’m using. The other reason is that is brings some sort of blessed satisfaction!

Am I weird? Or do you like to make your own stuff too?

  1. I don’t think you’re weird! We use vinegar and all natural products around our home. I love this soft scrub idea and will definitely be putting it to use as soon as I can come up with the ingredients. I also like the idea of spray bottles. We’ve just been preparing our vinegar mixture as needed but it’s becoming a bit annoying as I’m doing it quite often. I’m definitely going to pick up a few spray bottles the next time I’m out. Thanks!

  2. Not weird! Unless I am weird too…. I love making my own cleaning products. In fact, I prefer most things homemade and wish I was better with a sewing machine and had some power tools. Then I could make everything! For now, I’ll stick with homemade food and cleaners. :)

@Becky – I have a number of spray bottles for my vinegar mixtures and it works great.

  3. I have a question now – I usually use a single bottle of vinegar and lemon all purpose cleaner for my entire house, so I can use it up quickly and always have some fresh. If I were to make several different kinds using the recipes from your post, how long is the shelf life usually? I actually keep my vinegar and lemon cleaner in the fridge to keep it fresh. How long do your mixtures tend to last?

    • As far as I know vinegar lasts a long time. I rarely have trouble with it going bad. Mine last a few months, especially if it is straight vinegar with a few drops of essential oil.

Is your vinegar lemon cleaner made with essential oil?

I don’t use huge spray bottles. I buy the small ones because I do want the mixture to be as fresh as possible. I’m not sure that it is necessary though.

Most of the cleaners should last indefinitely.

  4. I’ve used lots of homemade cleaners but never a creamy scrub like this. Can’t wait to try! Thanks for the tip!

  5. Great post!
